Product Details

Borage oil is commonly used for premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menopausal symptoms, because it is the richest source of GLA available. The oil from the seed of the borage plant has more than twice the amount of the conditionally-essential, Omega-6 fatty acid, gamma linolenic acid (GLA) than is found in an equivalent quantity of evening primrose oil.

NOW® borage oil is expeller pressed, so there is no hexane used in the oil extraction. Our oil is guaranteed to contain a minimum of 240 mg of GLA per softgel. Borage oil is also known for its anti-inflammatory action, which is why it has been studied in clinical trials for conditions such as periodontitis / gingivitis and rheumatoid arthritis. Ingestion of GLA increases its metabolite dihomo-gamma-linolenic acid (DGLA). The increase of DGLA in turn increases the level of its metabolite 15-hydroxyeicosatrienoic acid (15-HETrE) and other chemicals, which are known anti-inflammatories.
