Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston have estimated that high blood sugar levels are indirectly responsible for more than three million deaths worldwide each year. Of these blood sugar related deaths, over 1 million were from diabetes, 1.5 million from heart disease and 700,000 from stroke.1 In fact, they conclude that elevated blood sugar is the leading cause of cardiovascular deaths in most regions of the world.1 Furthermore, since the risk of death rises with blood sugar levels well below the benchmark used to define diabetes, deaths linked to diabetes are likely underestimated.

Blood sugar is the amount of glucose in the blood. High blood glucose levels can be very damaging to the cells and tissues of your body. Furthermore, elevated blood sugar levels can lead to a condition called insulin resistance, in which cells become less responsive to insulin, and no longer take up the glucose they need to function properly. Insulin resistance and elevated blood glucose levels are two hallmark signs of the development of type 2 diabetes.2

GlucoSense contains nutrients and natural ingredients that have been shown to help with the management of healthy blood glucose levels.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid: Alpha-Lipoic Acid has been shown to improve blood sugar metabolism, improve insulin sensitivity, improve blood flow to peripheral nerves, and stimulate the regeneration of nerve fibres. Alpha-Lipoic Acid is used to help treat symptoms of nerve damage in people suffering from Type I and Type II diabetes.3

NeOptunia nopal cactus: Neoptunia is a unique fibre derived from cactus leaves. Research has shown that it can help to improve blood lipid parameters and can reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome – both of which are highly correlated with elevated blood sugar levels and type 2 diabetes.4

Bitter Melon: Bitter Melon has been shown to contain an insulin-like substance that promotes improved blood sugar control. In human studies with bitter melon extract, blood sugar reductions of as much as 54% have been observed after 3 weeks in patients with Type 2 diabetes.5

Chromium: Chromium helps maintain healthy glucose levels for people with blood sugar concerns. A large number of human clinical studies have shown that supplementation with chromium, especially in the more bioavailable picolinate form, can significantly reduce blood glucose and insulin levels and can even help to reduce the need for glucose reducing medications.6

Bilberry Extract: Bilberry Extract helps improve circulation and can enhance the strength of capillaries and artery walls, and can help to reduce the side effects of diabetes.7 Bilberry Extract may reduce inflammation and circulation problems that have been linked to heart disease. Bilberry Extract also contains a substance called glucoquinine, which has the ability to significantly lower blood sugar levels.7

Berberine: New research has shown that berberine, an extract found in certain plants, is highly effective for regulating glucose levels in diabetic individuals. For example, daily supplementation with berberine has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels both while fasting and after a meal in type 2 diabetics, and also helped to improve blood lipid parameters by lowering both LDL and triglyceride levels.8 In other studies, berberine has been shown to be as effective as drugs like metformin for lowering elevated blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetics.9

Cinnamon: Cinnamon has long been used traditionally for the regulation of blood glucose levels. Now clinical trials in humans have started to provide evidence of the effectiveness of cinnamon extracts for this purpose. In one study, supplementation with Chinese cinnamon extract (Cinnamomum aromaticum)significantly improved glucose control and blood lipid parameters in 66 type 2 diabetes patients. The extract was effective even at a low daily dose.10

Biotin: Biotin is an essential nutrient that plays an important role in glucose metabolism in the body, and deficiencies in biotin have been associated with impaired glucose metabolism. Studies have shown that taking a combination of biotin and chromium picolinate can be highly effective for helping to regulate glucose metabolism and improve glycaemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes.11

Cautions

Consult a health care practitioner prior to use if you have diabetes or a kidney disorder. Consult a health care practitioner if symptoms worsen. Hypoglycemia may result, if taken along with blood sugar lowering medications. Those with blood glucose problems should monitor their blood glucose levels. Hypersensitivity, e.g. allergy, may occur, in which case discontinue use. Discontinue use and consult a health care practitioner if you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia including feelings of anxiety, dizziness, tremor, sweating, nausea or headache. Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
