Pancreatin is a combination of digestive enzymes (proteins) called a proteolytic enzyme. These enzymes are normally produced by the pancreas and are important in the digestion of fats, proteins, and sugars.
Pancreatin is used to replace digestive enzymes when the pancreas does not produce enough on its own. Certain medical conditions can cause this lack of enzymes, including cystic fibrosis, chronic inflammation of the pancreas, pancreatic cancer, or pancreas surgery. Pancreatin may also be used to treat a condition called steatorrhea (loose, fatty stools).
The scientific evidence supports the use of proteolytic enzyme supplements for enhancing digestive function and for speeding recovery from injury/surgery and reducing swelling/bruising. The benefits in autoimmune diseases and food allergies is less substantial and awaits further study. As such, proteolytic enzyme supplements appear to represent a good value for athletes wishing to enhance recovery from exercise/injury and for patients recovering from surgery.

Each enteric-coated capsule contains:

Providing:

Suggested Use
Adults: Take 1 capsule two to four times daily with food or as directed by your health-care practitioner. Take with or immediately before a meal/food. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Consult a health-care practitioner for use beyond 4 weeks or for prolonged use. Use the smallest effective dose which controls symptoms.
Cautions
Contains no: Gluten, soy, wheat, eggs, dairy, yeast, citrus, preservatives, artificial flavour or colour, or sugar.
Cautions and warnings: Discontinue use and consult a health-care practitioner if symptoms persist or worsen. Consult a health-care practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breast-feeding; if you have pancreatitis, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency, or cystic fibrosis; or if you have diabetes.
Contraindications: Do not use if you are sensitive to pancreatic enzymes or to pork proteins.
Known adverse reactions: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain/epigastric pain and/or heartburn have been known to occur; in which case, discontinue use and consult a health-care practitioner.
Warning: Do not take if you have intestinal ulcers or any form of inflammatory bowel disease.
Store in a tightly closed, light-resistant container in a cool, dry place. Do not use if seal is broken. Keep out of reach of children.
